I was never really fervent in drinking alcohol and after catching “Days of Wine and Roses” on gradual night television I knew I was never going to drink, never gather drunk, and never ruin up like the character of Joe Clay, played by the slack Jack Lemmon. Joe is in public relations and cannot have a righteous time unless he is drinking. He meets up with Kirsten Arnesen (Lee Remick), and informed she does not drink but loves chocolate, he orders her a Brandy Alexander. Joe and Kirsten marry, although her father Ellis Arnesen (Charles Bickford), is not determined he approves. Joe’s alcoholism finally costs him his job and by then Kirsten is boozing honest as grand. In one of the most noxious scenes in movie history, Joe destroys the Arnesen greenhouse, looking for the bottles of booze he has buried with one of the plants. With the assist of A.A. Counselor Jim Hungerford (Jack Klugman), Joe finally starts to gather his life together. But Kirsten cannot do the same, even for the sake of their daughter Debbie.
With Lemmon’s death a lot of his conventional movies are suddenly popping up on cable television. I watched “Days of Wine and Roses” again last night and it is every bit as worthy and as horrific as I remember. No other film has made the life of an alcoholic glimpse so hopeless, not “Leaving Last Vegas” and certainly not “Lost Weekend.” Lemmon and Remick were both nominated for Oscars for their performances, while Henry Mancini’s title song won the Academy Award. Charles Bickford repeated the role he originated in the “Playhouse 90″ version aired in 1958, which was directed by James Frankenheimer. Blake Edwards directed this 1962 movie because the studio told Frankenheimer he could not mutter a comedy like this film. Both scripts were written by J. P. Miller. Bottom line: Nobody who ever watches this movie will ever forget it.

Joe introduces Kirsten to alcohol in the execute of a Brandy Alexander, and before long the two tumble in cherish and marry. Joe’s career slides as his drinking increases, causing him to be gradual for work and upsetting his clients. His company assigns him to a lower-level client in far away Houston. While Joe tries to do his job there, Kirsten sets their apartment on fire from drinking and smoking. Joe is fired, and not long afterward Joe has an epiphany. He is a bum, and his wife is a bum, and they need to discontinuance drinking.
Kirsten’s father takes the struggling couple into his home where he runs a nursery. After a couple of months sober, Joe and Kirsten drop off the wagon together in a riotous binge in their room. A second very poignant incident follows where Joe trashes his father-in-law’s nursery looking for the bottle he hid. This scene may seem overdone at first, but honest tune into one episode of ‘Cops’ and you will leer how well Jack Lemmon played this scene.
This time, Joe winds out in the hospital going through some overblown withdrawal symptoms, and it is here he meets Jim Hungerford (Jack Klugman) from Alcoholics Anonymous. Once in AA, Joe tries to fight his disease, while Kirsten remains in absolute denial of being an alcoholic. You must remember that this movie was made in 1962, and there was quite a stigma attached to being an alcoholic, the 60’s version of a scarlet letter.
There is no happily-ever-after in this movie. Though made in 1962, it is tranquil the best of the ‘alcoholic’ movies ever made. ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ certainly portrayed a down-and-out alcoholic, but the character Ben from that unique portrayal wanted to die. ‘Days Of Wine And Roses’ is the narrative of two people’s struggle against alcoholism, not their submission to it.
There is nothing outdated about this movie except the fashion; times change, behaviors don’t. Kirsten’s confession that she “objective wants things to see prettier than they are” rings so factual to addiction in any fabricate or from any era. This movie is about people and the disease, not the time-period, so it stands up to any of the recent day addiction stories.
‘Days Of Wine And Roses’ is a good classic, a timeless fraction that is both gloomy and engaging. Engage a hasty sign of the fact that in Joe and Kirsten’s first apartment, the bar was moral outside the baby’s room. I conception that was a bit ironic.

this is not the movie you would query it to be. yes the movie follows share 9 in their never ending quest to bust the terrible guys. the only scrape is that motoko(the main character in the series) is not the main character anymore. she is what made the whole series. without her as the lead the yarn is kind of bland and pushed to seem more than it is. but in all it is a respectable addition to my plump collection of gits dvds. (i have both movies and both seasons) so if your like me and need to complete your collection then yes rep it. if you are not then i suggest renting it from somewhere and build your absorb call on whether or not to assume it.
As usual Innocence is a wonderfull second GITS movie. Impartial needs to be done in English, with the regular english cast. This is a series that is lustrous,and very complicated. IT’S NOT FOR KIDS. The graphics are extraordinary. I got tired of trying to eye the shroud and follow the account with the text covering so distinguished of the wonderful graphics. This is some of the best Manga made. Charles Bronson stars in this depression-era movie about a man who is forced to hold up bare-knuckled fighting to regain enough money to survive. Bronson arrives in Fresh Orleans with a few coins in his pocket and no prospects. Fortunately for him (and unfortunately for his opponents) he comes across a betting fighting match hosted by two local sharpies. Bronson studies the set with chilly calculating eyes and realizes that he could acquire some considerable needed food money with a few bouts of his bear. Introducing himself to one of the local sharpies, (James Colburn, who is marvelous in his role of a fleet talking con-man in constant inconvenience with the local mob), Bronson and Colburn situation out to procure a runt fortune on the match-making skills of Colburn and the hard punishing fists of Bronson.

Intertwined between the bouts is Bronson and his co-star Jill Ireland (his real-life wife), and their trouble to assign a relationship.

I won’t spoil the ending for you by revealing the ending, but I will say that if you missed this movie when it was first screened in the mid-1970’s, you don’t want to miss it again! Although it does not belong on your “classic” shelf, “Hard Times” is one of Charles Bronson’s best movies and it will be a treat to understanding on a Saturday night.

Hard Times (known as ‘The Streetfighter’ here in Australia) is Bronson’s best movie alongside Death Wish. The film is region in the 1930’s during the depression, and its recreation of this period is outstanding. This is not a movie for hard-core action/fighting fans. Like ‘The Karate Kid’ and ‘Rocky’, Hard Times has a right legend and tantalizing characters. Bronson’s character, Chaney, is humble, level-headed, a bit of a loner – this contrasts nicely with James Coburn’s portrayal of Rush, a compulsive gambler who sets up fights for Bronson. Strother Martin and Jill Ireland (Bronson’s real-life wife until her death some years ago) are also broad in their supporting roles. Nice to glance an traditional forgotten classic like Hard Times released on DVD.

Director and co-writer Bonnie Hunt delivers the goods in “Return To Me,” a touching account of two deserving people who are afforded a second chance at esteem and happiness. When we meet Grace (Minnie Driver), she is suffering with heart disease and awaiting a donor for a transplant. Architect-builder Bob Rueland (David Duchovny) is happily married to Elizabeth (Joely Richardson), they are deeply in cherish, and Hunt like a flash establishes fair how perfect their lives are together; so perfect, in fact, it becomes somewhat unsettling because you know that tragedy of some kind or other is imminent. When it comes, the transition is handled succinctly and with the skill of a seasoned professional. When Elizabeth dies, Grace receives her heart. A year later, Bob, quiet mourning the loss of his wife, meets Grace at the Irish-Italian restaurant owned by her grandfather (Carroll O’Connor), where she works as a waitress. Neither are aware of the intimate link they part to the heart that has given Grace her life. In the hands of a less savvy director, the narrative at this point could easily go astray and become mired in coincidence and cliche. Hunt never comes cessation to allowing this to happen, however, and instead hits every price squarely on the head so that the location fairly resonates with precision and timing. A archaic character actress herself (she plays Grace’s closest friend, Meg, here), she seems to know instinctively honest when to add the upright light touch to offset the drama, then fleshes it all out with an array of gigantic characters,especially Robert Loggia, as Angelo, the “Greatest Italian chef in Chicago,” and James Belushi as Meg’s husband, Joe. There are no wasted moments in this film; the anecdote moves good along and takes you with it. The dialogue is often witty and always real; in a scene between Grace and Meg that takes status in the hospital (prior to their notification that a donor has been located), in which Grace can barely diagram a breath, she looks up at Meg and says one word, “Rosebud.” After Elizabeth dies, when Bob finds himself alone at home and finally breaks down, Hunt gives the scene time to construct and play out, so that it rings suitable instead of being glossed over and simply ancient as a tool to fade the fable along. When it happens we, as an audience, are also afforded that time to realize the suffering he’s experiencing, and it allows us to feel it as well. The scene in which Grace, Meg and Joe are at home awaiting a dinner guest (a ragged priest), is beyond hilarious. Highlighting an exceptional cast, David Duchovny and Minnie Driver are unforgettable as Bob and Grace; and the multi-talented Bonnie Hunt rises to a whole original level of artistic merit for giving us a truly memorable and heart-warming movie that is a joy to experience. Written by Hunt and Don Lake, “Return To Me” is a delight from beginning to ruin, the kind of film one waits for to approach along. Hopefully, in the future Hunt will treat us to even more movies of this caliber.
“Return To Me” is a very likeable romantic comedy starring David Duchovny, breaking away from X-Files mold, and the always inspiring Minnie Driver. While we wait for kismet to bring these two characters together, we are treated to a shapely (and impressive) supporting cast of characters head by Carroll O’Connor, Robert Loggia, David Alan Grier, James Belushi, and writer-director Bonnie Hunt. There is cramped suspense that the two main characters will get each other and in the demolish accept novel life and admire — but this is the movies after all!
For DVD buyers and renters, the upright gem is the audio commentary by Bonnie Hunt and co-writer Don Lake. This highly recommended bonus to the DVD version is at least worth another “star.” Hunt, who is one of the best interviewees on talk shows, engages in a informative and a very funny dialogue with Lake throughout the movie. By all means, after watching the movie go encourage and ogle the movie again with Hunt and Lake. Hunt’s dry humor will design you laugh out loud at times as she speaks of her poor make-up job in her first scene to the seemingly dozens of family members that she placed throughout the film. You will also secure a dependable appreciation for the art of film-making. “Return To Me” was Hunt’s directorial debut and it is provocative to listen to the care and meticulous detail that she placed into this film (music selections, editing, etc.) . I went to peep “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” the second day it came out,(and boy was I dissapointed) during the previews I saw a petite teaser trailer for this film with Cale speaking while the Titan escapes the Earth’s destruction. I expected that Titan A.E. would be an all-CG film ala “Antz” or “Toy Account” so I was tantalizing. Later on I discovered that it would be a hand drawn engaging film combined with CG animation and effects. I grew even more fascinating, but I was a serious anime fan, and after seeing colossal stuff like “Akira,” “Bubblegum Crisis” and “Ghost in the Shell” I was convinced that I would never examine anything the least bit halt of quality arrive out of the U.S., I was in for a colossal surprise.
Titan A.E.(in which I went to scrutinize the first day of it’s release) turned out to be an awesome experience that was unbiased as enchanting as any anime I’ve seen. First of all the animation was simply astounding, the characters were the normal, well-drawn Don Bluth character designs which were salubrious, but the sincere star was the CG effects and animation that blended with the hand-drawn animation even BETTER than the anime,”Blue Submarine No. 6″ did. Plus, it was nothing like anything I’ve seen out of an American absorbing movie. No droll sidekicks(which is symbolized in one early scene in a comically violent scene) intense kick-ass music that perfectly complements the tense action and DOESN’T degenerate into a tiring, musical. And it contains a number of awesome, visually spectacular action scenes. From the fast- paced slide scene spirited spherical hydrogen trees to the final drag at the Ice Rings of Tegrin(Cale’s mosey with the Wake Angels was an awe-inspiring moment), Titan A.E. is a far roar from anything that Disney has establish out. But cynical and inflamed critics and moviegoers buried Titan A.E. and objective saw it as a “cartoon.” Which is a exact tragedy, cause Titan A.E. deserves a lot more recognition than it’s getting.
Overall, I really judge people should like this film for what it’s trying to be, a aged keen film that is really targeting teenagers and tries to avoid the “Disney” syndrome. Titan A.E. isn’t really a movie for children, it can be violent and has train that reaches the PG-13 rating.(which I earn even more refreshing) But overall, I can’t wait for this astounding movie to arrive out on DVD, and I hope that Fox puts plenty of misfortune into it and provides it with lots of extras. If you unprejudiced leave your cynicism at the door you will search for an awesome film. Titan A.E. is one of the best (and underated) films of the year, that’s even better than Disney’s “Dinosaur”. American Animation would prefer a turn for the better if there were more films such as this( and “The Iron Giant” which suffered the same fate.) But unfortunately after the results of the last two movies, that doesn’t seem very likely…
Ok, so the film bombed, and killed ANY chance to scrutinize another spectacular film like this from Fox Studios ever again. I hope it will obtain considerable more attention on DVD then it did in theatres. Hopefully it will also have alot of fun and icy features for the fans.

This movie shows that Disney isn’t the only ones with animation talent. But unlike Disney Fox isn’t timorous to market to an older audience. The characters are all very icy, with an unique space to boot! Some super status twists along the plot, and VERY VERY VERY chilly animation mixed BEAUTIFULLY with the best special effects you’ll ever witness in an engaging film. This movie wasn’t predictable, and kept me guessin HOW it was gonna all slay. The ending is a stretch of the imagination. I did observe someone converse how “impossible” it was. But this is science fiction! who cares! My only plight is that it ended too lickety-split, I would’ve enjoyed it even more had it been 2 hrs. The sing talents are mountainous, but at times unrecognizable (I didn’t know John Leguizamo was in it till I saw the credits.) I also wanna mention the AWESOME music! Its all rock and you’ll be moshing in your seat as it keeps the movie rolling along smoothly.
My accepted scene is when Matt Damons character is flying the ship along with the wake angels. That was pure gawk candy, and I can’t wait to look this movie again on video! I’ll be first in line to glean it on DVD! Method to go FOX! Too awful this movie will be the last of it’s kind.
